Brothers
Anthony Castellano (lead vocals and bass) and Mark Cass (vocals and
drums) had kicked around in the Sydney music scene since the mid
90’s in a variety of musical projects, paying their dues and
honing their skills, but lacking a sound to set them apart from the
myriad of bands on the scene. Transit-Inc’s first
incarnation came about in 2005, but it wasn’t until they
discovered their musical soul mate in Rob Russ (vocals and guitar),
who helped them re-define how the Cass brothers thought about and
engaged with music. Transit-Inc’s current line up emerged
and with it, a truly unique sound that is distinct and familiar at
once.
Their
self-titled debut full-length album is a true independent release.
Recorded over two years, it has impressive credits atypical of most
indie bands. The album was recorded at some of the top studios in
Sydney, including Velvet Studios, BJB Studios and Eargasm Studios,
mixed by Craig Porteils (who has worked with Guns and Roses, Rod
Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, and many others). and mastered at Sterling
Sound in New York. Produced by Novak Langer of Veracity Music, it
promises to be one of the most exciting, original releases of 2008!
Transit-Inc’s
dynamic songs are already gaining attention from music aficionados,
as evidenced by their vibrant, captivating “Sown” being voted as
one of the Top Ten Songs in the Rock category of the 2007 Music
Oz Awards. “Sown” was also featured as the February 2008
HotPick on Hotsource. The Drum Media described
their sound as “a bombastic Modest Mouse”. The song
“Start Up” has been featured in numerous videos for the High
Five series of Extreme Sports, distributed worldwide by IMG Media.
The
band was featured on the international website Indie Solo (www.indiesolo.com)
as Band of the Day on the 26th of April as well as on Scout
TV on 30th
June.
The band will begin a monthly residency at the Lansdowne
Hotel starting in August. Handpicking the bands to play along
side them, their aim is to make the first Friday of every month at
the corner of Broadway and
City Road
in Chippendale a celebration of
Sydney
's Independent music scene
